FAQ

Where will our session take place?
It’s up to you! I’m located in Northville and I’m happy to recommend some of my favorite locations. I’m open to any ideas you have as well. Tell me a little about your family and your style and I will come up with the perfect spot for you!  I prefer to shoot outdoors in natural light, but for those cold Michigan weather months you’re always welcome to my home studio. I’m also available for travel to your home if you’re interested in more of a candid, lifestyle session.  Please note that there will be a small travel fee for locations further than 15 miles from Northville, MI. During the summer months I spend most weekends in Northern Michigan (Bellaire) so if you’re located in that area or traveling that way, contact me for more information.

What should we wear for our family session?
This is probably the number one question I hear! And I get it, picking out clothes for portraits can be stressful! I’d recommend first choosing a color scheme of two to three colors. Think about where the portraits will hang and work around that. For example for our family photos I knew I wanted canvases to hang in my son’s blue and green nursery so I chose a similar color scheme for our photos. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns, it’s ok to have someone in plaid and another one in polka dots as long as the colors coordinate. Try to avoid the traditional matchy-matchy look of everyone in khakis and white tops.  And finally, don’t forget about accessories! Layers and accessories add dimension, fun, texture and richness to the overall look. So bring on the hats, headbands, tights, scarves, cardigans, ties, and necklaces!  Feel free to text me photos of your outfits and I can give you my opinion.  I also have a few websites I recommend where you can rent adorable designer dresses for your little girls!

What if it rains on the day of my session? Can I reschedule?
Absolutely, if it's raining we will postpone; I don’t want to stand in the rain either! But please keep in mind that rescheduling during my busiest seasons (summer and fall), especially for a weekend session, may be tricky.  Because Michigan weather changes so quickly, I usually wait to postpone a session due to weather until a few hours prior.

How far in advance do I need to book my session?
If you’re just coming across my website and you want to do a session next week, by all means, shoot me an email and it may work out! But generally to get on my calendar your best bet is to contact me one to three months before you would like to have your session.  The busiest time is summer and fall so make sure to book those dates as early as possible.  For newborn photos I recommend getting in touch at least a month before your due date.  It’s best to schedule your session within 10 days of birth while they’re still extra sleepy. Obviously that makes it difficult to plan in advance, but as long as I have a general time frame we’ll be fine. And don't worry, if you already had your baby and are freaking out that you didn't book a photographer yet, give me a call. I always try to make time for newborns!

How long before I will see my images?
My goal is to deliver your online gallery within two to three weeks. Again, it depends on the time of year and I appreciate your patience!
